Meet the quartet that was inspired by our trip to New Orleans. We traveled to NOLA to attend Polish Con, but we had a lot of adventures while we were there! Each of these four classically beautiful polishes are loaded with shimmer, microflakies, and a story to tell.

This listing is for the complete four piece NOLA Quartet full sized (15 ML) or mini sized (5.5ML) collection.

The NOLA Quartet Complete Collection contains the following polishes:

Alligator Pee is a neutral, warm-toned grey with a generous pink shimmer shift and delicate gold microflakies.

The craziest thing to happen to us in NOLA was getting peed on by an alligator! Apparently, nervous young alligators are prone to letting loose when being held by unsuspecting ladies. Yes, we found this out the hard way. So what color is alligator pee, really? Truthfully, we don't know - we were too busy searching the boat for water and towels to clean ourselves with. One thing is for sure - if alligator pee was this pretty, we wouldn't have minded the entire ordeal!

Beignet, Done That is a shimmery, grey-toned red fused with shimmer and delicate gold microflakies.

The most predictable thing we did in NOLA was try the beignets - ALL the beignets. We went beignet hopping around the French Quarter - all in the same day (yes, we were a bit stuffed by the end). The weather, much to our dismay, was horrible. We had pouring rain and flooding streets to wade through. We sat in the original Cafí© Du Monde which was packed despite the weather, directly near an open door. The wind and rain blew on us the entire time we were there. Nevertheless, we prevailed (as did our stomachs). The big surprise of the day is that Cafí© Du Monde did not have our favorite beignets! We preferred Cafí© Beignet, as their beignets seemed to have a nicer texture and flavor. Or, maybe the food tasted better because we were seated entirely indoors instead of in the weather. I guess we'll never know.

Afloat an Airboat is an icy blue beauty laced with complementary shimmers and delicate gold microflakies.

The most adventurous thing we did in NOLA was take an airboat swamp and bayou tour. It was surreal (and a bit scary) buzzing through water that was waist high at best at speeds of up to 42 miles per hour. We spotted 16 wild alligators on the tour. That number does not include the domesticated gator that peed on us. The scenery was gorgeous and the experience was refreshingly unique. It was definitely a blast!

French Quarter Phantoms is a black-toned burgundy that is rich with shimmer and sprinkled with gold microflakies.

The creepiest thing we did in NOLA was go on a nighttime graveyard bus tour. It was the only tour that was authorized to go into certain graveyards after the sunset. The tour director was very sassy, and there may have been some good spirited, yet cheeky interactions between him and a certain redhead on the tour. We were driven around the city and told ghost stories, stopping at various local haunts. We creeped through graveyards, one that had a mass grave estimated to have somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 bodies. It was a fitting end to our NOLA adventure.

  • Holo ... what? It can be confusing to figure out all the different terms used to describe polish, and some people might define terms differently than you are used to. Here is how we define the terms we use to describe our polishes.

    Chunky Glitter

We define chunky glitter as anything that is bigger than micro-sized. These glitters would be easily seen when a polish is applied.

    Crelly

The word crelly is a mixture between cream and jelly. The consistency of a crelly tends to be on the thinner side, but not as thin as a jelly. Many times these crellies contain varying sized glitter. At Nail Hoot, when we use the term crelly, we are always referring to polishes with chunky glitters.

    Duochrome

Duochrome polishes appear to shift between two colors when viewed at various angles and lighting.

    Flakie

Flakies are particles that can range from micro to large sized. These particles can be seen in the polish when it is worn. A flakie can compliment a polish, or stand out in contrast. Some flakies (such as UCC) shift colors.

    Flash

Flash is like a glance of another color within the polish when viewed in various lighting or angles. Flash can be heavy (where the shift would be seen at almost all times), light (every once in a while it will catch your eye), or in between.

    Holographic (Scattered Holo, Linear Holo)

Holographic polishes show special color changes when viewed in the direct sunlight.

Linear holographic polishes have color changes that resemble a flame on the nail. This is the most pronounced type of holographic polish.

Scattered holographic polishes have color changes that are scattered throughout the nail. It is typically more of a subtle holographic and does not exhibit a flame.

    Jelly

Jelly polishes tend to be very thin. They're designed to be at least semi-transparent. Sometimes this is because there is glitter one would be unable to see otherwise. Another popular use of jelly polishes is to do nail art in between coats, to give the art a floating look.

    Microflakies

Microflakies are flakies with a very small size. They are typically more pronounced than shimmer.

    Microglitter

Microglitters are very small glitters that can serve many purposes. Holographic microglitters would give a scattered holographic look. Colored microglitters would give dimension to a polish. Polishes with glitter should always be topped with a layer of topcoat to smooth out the glitters and make the polish shine.

    Multichrome

Multichrome polishes appear to shift between three or more colors (can include hues within the same color) when viewed at various angles and lighting.

    Shimmer

Shimmers are like a special added twinkle in the polish. Shimmer can compliment a polish, or stand out in contrast. Shimmer can be heavy, light, or in between.

     UCC Flakies

UCC stands for Ultra Chrome Chameleon. This special flakie is metallic and has color changing properties.
